Can I operate a business out of my home?
Most businesses are not allowed to operate in residential areas as they disrupt residents and the community. This means that car and boat repairs, daily garage/yard sales, and businesses where customers or employees come to the house are prohibited. These businesses must be conducted in a commercial or industrial area. Generally, businesses that have no outward appearance or increased traffic (for example working via internet, house cleaning services, consulting, etc) may be conducted from your home. Home businesses do require a Home Business Tax. If you need information on permitted home occupations please call the Development Services Department.
