The City of Belleview Commission discussed the upcoming holiday events at their meeting on December 1st. After careful consideration, they regretfully announce the cancellation of both the Light-Up Lake Lillian event, scheduled for December 5, and the Annual Belleview Christmas Parade scheduled for December 13, 2020. Both events traditionally draw large crowds of attendees, utilization of most City staff, many volunteers and participants from schools and children based groups, community organizations, and local businesses.
Several factors were taken into consideration, including the increased COVID-19 cases and positivity rate, the safety of City employees, lack of the assistance from other law enforcement agencies due to recent outbreaks of COVID, as well as the lack of participation from schools and organizations. The City Commission agreed that hosting these holiday events is not the safest nor most prudent way to proceed during such an unprecedented year.
While the City of Belleview is disappointed that we are unable to host these community events this year, we will be posting videos on Facebook of the Lights at Lake Lillian and urge citizens to take a drive or walk around the park and enjoy the lights. We hope to be getting back to in-person events soon and urge everyone to Stay Safe and enjoy the Holiday Season.
